Personality & Traits
General Overview | Martin is an active male, who enjoys working as a team. He is usually pleasant and will crack a joke when the oppourtunity arrises, but he usually knows when it is not appropriate to do so. He is a strong believer in the saying "A day without laughter, is a day wasted." When he is in a bad mood, he says little and keeps to himself mostly. His answers are usually short and to the point when he's in this state, but tries to refrain from being rude. However, he crosses the line if pushed too much. Martin respects the chain of command above all else and has looked to his superior officers for inspiration and guidance throughout his career, despite this, he is a leader. If the situation around him is dire he can step up and attempt to take control of a situation. Successful or not, he will do what he thinks is right. |
Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Physically fit. His personality benefits from his healthy lifestyle. Quick reflexes. The thing that gave him the edge over the compitition at Starfleet Academy. A technical mind. He understands technology and is able to grasp the idea of how something works rather quickly. A trait that developed from assisting starfleet engineers. Weaknesses: He has alot of faith in his superior officers. Some could say too much. There will be times when he may follow orders others would've questioned. If something effects him, he will not talk about it to hardly anyone. It even caused alot of friction between him and other crewmembers on previous assignments when he would close himself off to everyone around him. |
Ambitions | To become a starship captain. To reach the rank of at least captain. To have a family back on Earth. |
Hobbies & Interests | He plays alot of sports, but mostly Rugby and American football. His daily routine usually has some form of exercise involved in it's schedule. He likes to cook in his spare time and build things. He has an old propeller aircraft back on Earth he likes to look after and occasionally fly. Martin also spent most of his childhood playing the guitar in bands. He occassionally plays in his room now but rarely to others. Like most of the pilots in starfleet, he loves piloting. He will usually volunteer for shuttle assignments as he loves the freedom a shuttle trip can give him. Whereas piloting a starship can be quite restrictive. He will show off his skills anytime he's given the chance. |

Personal History | Martin was born in Lincoln general hospital in England, on 14/10/2360. Although he was born to two starfleet officers, he was fortunate as he and his younger sister Katy were never without one parent nearby. From his birth and his sisters two years later, he lived in San Fransisco with his mother who worked within the Medical Corps as a lieutenant, whilst his father served on board the U.S.S Yamato as chief engineer, holding the rank of lieutenant commander. He attended school in San Fransisco and joined the Starfleet youth cadets at the age of twelve. It was a programme that his high school offered to future Starfleet hopefuls. The early experienced proved invaluable as they were taken on several trips off planet to visit the Utopia Plantia shipyards, much to the joy of the future engineers, and Martin, but he had his heart set on piloting this massive wonders of construction. Martin won first place in the San Fransisco Starfleet Cadet marksman compititoin much to the joy of his mother and father who were both able to attend the event. For his sixteenth birthday, his father bought him an old propeller powered 'training' aircraft. They worked on it together for a whole year before flying it for the first time over the bay. It was one of the proudest moments of his life, and he got to share it with his father. Meanwhile whilst he walked in new footsteps, albiet side by side with his father, his sister showed interest in medical science, much to the delight of their mother, who was elated when Katy told her she had applied for early admission to Starfleet medical corps. Martin made a pact with his sister to tell their parents at the same time of their chosen paths in life, as they were both worried they could possibly disappoint their parents. However, to Martins surprise, his father was very proud of his decision. 'The first Cook of Lincolnshire to pilot a Federation starship. He was so proud infact his captain, Captain Joseph Walker on the U.S.S New Zealand invited the young man to the bridge of the New Orleans class starship. There he was able to sit in the chair of the chief flight officer, who's name was Lieutenant Matthew Arlington. He showed Martin all the basic controls, and how experience and the 'feel' of a ship, can overrule the rulebook in difficult situations. In 2380, Martin enrolled at Starfleet Academy, San Fransisco. In his first year, he covered the basics of being a member of Starfleet. He did the basic classes with others who would be joining as ratings. In the second half of term he was moved into the officer candidate course. In this class, he saw excellence. The people who would become the best Starfleet had to offer in the years to come. He secretly felt like he would be out performed by everyone in that room. To his surprise, he was able to keep up with the class, and excelled in pilot courses. Showing a natural strength when behind the helm of a shuttle, or in the simulator. In his second year, he advanced in his class further. He accomplished the basic command course and applied for and began his advanced piloting courses. To pass the exams he spent many, many nights in the simulator, and several sessions with the now Lieutenant Commander Matthew Arlington on the holodeck of the New Zealand. Matthew was confident in Martins ability to succeed but wanted him to do better than that, he wanted him to finish with honours, the top of his class. When the exams came, the extra time spent in the simulator proved crucial, as he passed the first two tests with flying colours, and passed the third with no special difference to the others in his class. In his third year, he was given a placement on Deep Space four as a shuttle pilot. During this time he did well in his duties and saw a variety of different things. One of his most memorable experiences was transporting a Romulan Ambassador to and from the starbase to the Romulan boarder. He will never forget as his heart raced when the Romulan warbird decloaked infront of him at the boarder, dwarfing the type nine shuttle. As he grew up back on Earth, he always heard the stories of these massive Romulan warships. Commander Leslie Ryans on Deep Space four was always going to be curious when the ambassador made a comment about Martins 'pilot humour' and how she requested him as her pilot in future diplomatic missions. In his final year, his time on board the space station proved the decider, as he had seen and interacted with so much more than the other pilot's. Face to face with a Romulan warbird, in a type nine shuttle, with no one with him but a Romulan ambassador. It was the talk of the Academy for several weeks. Some even said he defeated the Romulans in a battle of wits, though he found the rumour rediculous and rather embarrassing. He graduated Starfleet Academy in 2384, top of his class with honours. Meanwhile his sister was in her second year in the Academy, but was able to attend the ceremony. He keeps the pictures in his quarters. The one with his father, his mother and sister, and the others with his father and his friends on board the U.S.S New Zealand and U.S.S Yamato. His first assignment as a fresh officer from the academy was on a Norway class starship, the U.S.S Sutherland. It's assignment was to patrol the Cardassian boarder, assisting the Cardassians in the rebuilding on their colony worlds. He saw very little combat, but had a chance to shine during a mission, when they recieved a distress call from a Cardassian Galor class ship, caught in the gravimetric pull of a crumbling planet. He remembers feeling everyones eyes on him, especially the now Captain Leslie Ryans eyes. He felt the weight of responsibility and thrived under it. Swerving, and gliding the Norway through the debris of the crumbling world, to get into transporter range. They managed to rescue all the twenty nine survirors of the Cardassian vessel. Martin was recommended for promotion to Chief flight officer, for his confidence and skill under pressure. Key features for an officer. He served a further two years on board before being assigned to the U.S.S Iapetus under the command of Captain Vorn Krace. |
