Personal History | Species Notes - The Asrey - for a full racial profile, visit http://wiki.bravofleet.com/index.php?title=Asrey - First Contact: The Asrey hail from the planet Nesqua, an oceanic world in the furthest reaches of the Alpha Quadrant, at least 2,000 lightyears from Federation space. First contact with the Asrey occurred in late-2385; an Asrey frigate veered off-course during a scouting on the Federation's 'Western' fringes, where they encountered the USS Johannesburg heavily damaged after a plasma storm. The frigate aided in repairs of the Johannesburg; in exchange, the ship's Commanding Officer offered a diplomatic conference on Earth for the Asrey crew. Formal diplomatic relations began on December 5th 2385. It was quickly discovered that the Asrey were a technologically superior species, aeons ahead of the Federation. Having successfully accomplished transwarp-drive capabilities, long-distance transport and trans-phasic weaponry thousands of years before, the Asrey delegation was met with some animosity by the Federation Council. Nevertheless, it was clear from the very beginning that the Asrey were eager for friendly relations, though under the terms of it's own military constitution, adamant with regards to revealing the secrets of their technology. Today, a few thousand Asrey live and work within the Federation; as a race of intellects and devout listeners, the Asrey are eager to gain as much understanding about a multitude of cultures as possible. - Traits: The Asrey are a bi-pedal Humanoid species, similar in appearance to Humans and Andorians; their trademark coloured skin ranges from deep blues to shocking pinks to dull greens. Hair colours and styles are varied, yet eye colour is always mauve. The Asrey are renowned for their incredible speed and flexibility; even a heavily pregnant female could outrun a fit Human male. Asrey possess superior visual acuity to Humans, though their audio range is considerably smaller (likened to a Cardassian). As a result of enhanced evolution on an oceanic planet, Asrey have the ability to survive under water for at least an hour, and are highly skilled swimmers. Evolutionary enhancement has also provided the Asrey with limited telepathic abilities - while they cannot read minds or even sense emotions, they are able to register neural-electrical patterns produced by most craniums from a considerable distance, a useful trait in tight quarters. Asrey females also possess the ability to emit micro-dermal peptides through the skin; when these peptides come into contact with another humanoid, they allow for intense physical stimulation. Peptide production is an important aspect of Asrey mating rituals; many Asrey lose this ability as they age. The Asrey are an incredibly long-lived species; females of the species are known to surpass 1,000 years, while males rarely reach 600. While Asrey appear physiologically indifferent to Humans, their internal structure varies dramatically; as a semi-aquatic species, their heart-rate is considerably slower, averaging at less than 10bpm. Asrey are warm-blooded, but an evolutionary factor that allows the species to survive the harshest of conditions grants a much greater range of internal temperatures, ranging from a lukewarm 18 Celsius to a searing 54 degrees. As a result of such a drastic range of homoeostasis, Asrey diets vary depending on climate, with fibrous, carb-filled foods in the cold, and protein diets in the heat. Asrey thermoregulatory centres are subconsciously adaptable. The Asrey possess a small set of gills just below the inner-thigh. As individuals, Asrey are calm, confident and passionate in everything they do. Females are particularly renowned for their promiscuity and their skills as tacticians, while males generally achieve higher marks in scientific and technical aspects. After mating, most Asrey move on and seek another partner. The Asrey speak Sar-naya, a dialect with a similar guttural composition to Klingon, that has remained mostly unchanged for thousands of years. Sar-naya is generally scripted as small diagrams, and is difficult to translate. Romanised letterings include 'ar nyen' as a form of greeting, and 'Deya' as a formal title. The letter 'x' does not appear in any Romanised script. - Politics: The main authoritative power is the Asrey Confederacy; a vast nation who's borders stretch across much of the Alpha and Gamma quadrants. Ruled by a representatively elected Federal Council, and protected by the Federal Navy, the Confederacy is an incredibly powerful state. Working alongside the Navy is the Jesseri Corps, an elite unit of highly trained infiltration specialists designed to undertake the grimmest of tasks. Unlike the socialist utopia that is the Federation, the Confederacy is a consumerist nation fuelled by capitalism. While private corporate interests are barred from the legislature, commercial enterprise plays a huge part in Asrey society, much akin to the Ferengi Alliance. Despite amassing a huge naval force, the Confederacy ranks high in terms of historical peace, having fought only one civil war since it's founding in 144 B.C. an sparring only occasionally with neighbouring states. --- Naera Dantius was born in 1971 on Nesqua. Much of her life until the last century cannot be recollected; the following entry was made by Dantius upon enlistment in Starfleet in 2386. There are some things I remember, things no Asrey should ever forget, such as my home, my family and the Fan'che (ceremony of adulthood). Beyond that, my life is a verdant haze. I remember my mother... a rifleman. And as far as I can remember my father was a corporate giant. We lived happily for a few decades on Nesqua, until my mother and father departed and I was left independent. Free. I enlisted in the Federal Navy at just 39; they told me I was too young, but I was persistent. I learnt the value of persistence many times throughout my training. I completed my 50 year course in Regional Politics in... no I can't remember. Sufficed to say I was unfulfilled and wanted to push myself harder. So after a few years working as a diplomat's aide I signed up to the Jesseri Corps. It was a defining moment in my life, rest assured. The training was rough... I felt at times that I could not go on. But I persevered, and after another 30 years spent as a training cadet I finally graduated, with honours might I add. It would, however, be a while before I could taste the foul stench of battle on my lips; in the meanwhile, I resigned myself to my studies. Just a few, short years after, we were gripped by strife in the outer-regions. Corporate separatists demanding more legislative powers threatened to depose the Council if they didn't relax the laws. We didn't buy it, and we were sent in to deliver justice. The blood was sweet. I don't remember much beyond what is stated in my official record. I vaguely recall at least a century of active service in the military. It was not until recently that I finally left the Confederacy and found a new lease of life. My government had recently made contact with a nation known as the Federation; an interesting mix of cultures. Our government was offering many Asrey the opportunity to expatriate to the Federation. My time as a militant at this point was long past. I wanted to make a difference elsewhere. Upon arrival I was the centre point of the latest cultural craze of the Federation; pretty blue alien girl with pink eyes. Far be it for me to judge the prerogatives of Federation society, but I did not wish to become the poster girl for the next line of sun-screen. I turned my attention to a worthwhile establishment; Starfleet... In 2386, Naera applied for a non-commissioned position aboard a Starfleet vessel. Based on her age, vast repertoire of experience and perhaps to promote the Federation's peaceful friendship with a technologically superior nation, Naera was enlisted as Chief of the Boat aboard the USS Iapetus. |
