Mar'Koth Deveraux, was just an infant when he along with thirty three others, were rescued from an attack by pirates near the old Romulan Neutral Zone (RNZ). The ship's captain had made a valiant effort to evade the marauders before being overtaken and crippled. Among the passengers, a young girl named Valis, who took to the infant Mar'Koth and hid with him inside of a storage container when the attack and subsequent boarding began. Rescued by a joint Klingon/Starfleet task force, Valis and young Mar'Koth were nearly missed in the accounting of passengers if not for the thoroughness of a Klingon exchange officer who against his commander's orders, scanned the vessel once again for lifesigns and personally rescued the two children.
