The Quietening Voices

As we've been moving away from the Nebula, I've been hearing the voices of the beings who inhabit it less and less. I only seem to have realised it now, but they are now barely more than a whisper, and when I think back on it, I realise that the voices have been quietly getting quieter and quieter as we've moved away.

I think that I would have noticed if they were going quiet because something was wrong, so I'm going to have to make the conclusion that either my telepathic link to them was temporary, or - perhaps more easily explained - it is only strong when I am in their vicinity, and it weakens to the point of not even being there the further away I get.

Frankly, I'm relieved at this discovery. I had been worried that my concentration would be effected seriously by this, and that my effectiveness as a commander would suffer. Still, I'd like to do that session with the other telepaths onboard like was suggested; afterall, I'd hate for this area to become a no-go-zone for me after this mission.
