Mission: Into a Devil's Heart
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: MD04 1440hrs

Jade stepped off the turbolift onto the bridge. The first time she had been there, she crossed the room staring at the consoles and officers towards the ready room. Pressing the bell she waited nervously, wondering why the captain wanted to see her.

"Come!" Vorn called from his ready room, closing down the computer infront of him, turning his attention from it as it descended into his desk. Seeing who it was who had sounded the chime, he let a smile spread onto his face. "Ah, Cadet! Please, take a seat!"

"Yes sir" Jade said nervously as she slipped into a chair in front of his desk.

"I've just finished speaking with Rear Admiral McDonald - I'm sure you know of him, he's the Academy Director for the 8th Fleet." When Vorn had looked into the Cadet's record, he had seen that while she was in the shuttle they had discovered her in, she was being transferred from the commandant back in San Francisco to McDonald in the 8th Fleet.

"Yes sir, although I haven't met him sir" Jade replied nicely, wondering what the admiral had to do.

"Well I've spoken to him about your progress in your training, as well as the fact that we'll be departing from Starbase Ronin on a mission shortly, and won't have time to take you to him at Starbase 386. He feels that, based on your academy records so far, he would be willing to let you stay aboard the Iapetus, and continue your training under Lieutenant LaToon and the rest of the medical staff, with him sending you the theory modules remotely," he paused, trying to judge the cadet's reaction. "If you want to stay aboard the ship, that is."

"I'd like to stay aboard very much sir" She said still slightly nervous.

"Excellent," Vorn replied, smiling at the young woman in front of him. "In that case, Admiral McDonald has authorised me to grant you a promotion to Cadet, Junior Grade," he pulled a small velvet box from a drawer in his desk that he had replicated after his conversation with the Admiral. "Effective immediately. Congratulations Cadet, it's an important step towards the officerdom you're reaching for at the end of your training."

"Thank you sir" Jade replied with a smile as she looked at the box, waiting for him to hand it to him. She had never been promoted in person from the academy, but just set another pip when she graduated.

Inside the box was a set of three, oblong pips, indicating the second-to-last rank of a cadet in the academy, which he handed her. "You'll need to report to Lieutenant LaToon to work up a teaching schedule," Vorn told her. "Dismissed."
