The Rage of a Woman

Posted on Thu Nov 19th, 2009 @ 1:34am by Commander Peter Brown & Captain Vorn Krace

Mission: Into a Devil's Heart
Location: USS Iapetus - Ready Room
Timeline: MD07 2000hrs

The doors of the ready room opened and Sara stormed in. She was in full rage of anger after speaking with Peter, seeing him give up. She needed to face the man who caused this to happen.

"Listen here, I don't care what it means in Starfleet - treason and betrayal - you better snap to you... you idiot!" yelled Sara with tears down her face "You must force him to defend himself. He won't because of you, and these damn Starfleet rules!" As tears came down her face she stared at the Captain.

Vorn stood silently, calmly looking at the woman infront of him and taking in the torrent of anger. He waited for a long time after she had finished before speaking himself, knowing that infront of someone as full of anger and irrationality as this, he needed to establish his superiority over her. "His reasons for doing so not withstanding, the facts of the matter are, Miss Pendragon, that Peter has broken the laws of the Federation. The laws which he as a Starfleet officer swore to defend, and he needs to answer for that."

He took another pause, before continuing. "I haven't said anything to him since he was placed under arrest. I am not the reason he doesn't want to defend himself, if that is indeed his intention."

Sara looked at him, staring into his eyes, hers full of anger, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Why is it with all you damn Starfleet officers, that someone breaks some little law and you say they betrayed more then the Federation? Betrayed something that couldn't be repaired? I hope you are happy, as the Peter that I know would go out of his way to defend himself, even if he is in wrong! What did this ship do to him? All he does is lay there! He will refuse even food and drink - I know that for a fact!" Sara yelled. "And it's your fault!" Sara yelled again, as she tried to slap Vorn in the face.

Vorn's arm snapped up, and grabbed her wrist in a vice-like grip, his reflexes being quick enough to grab the angry woman's hand before it hit his face. "'Little law'?" he asked her, anger starting to creep its way into his voice as well. "Do you know what he did? He disabled this ship, damaging our communications array in such a way it took nearly a week to repair. He then kidnapped an enlisted officer, before ejecting her in an escape pod when her usefulness in his 'mission' was at an end. He then stole a Federation starship, destroying one of this ship's assigned shuttles in the process. Only yesterday, he then used his stolen starship to attack the Iapetus. What he did was no small crime, Miss Pendragon."

Sara looked directly into the face of the commanding officer of Peter - stared directly at him, taking a deep breath.

"Well, about how you failed him, I happen to know as a fact I know his personal file access codes, that he made a formal protest when it comes to the Colony, and want did you do? Not what a Command Officer does - didn't you realize his former fiancée was on that planet? Wouldn't you have thought he would do something rash? No you didn't did you? All you cared about is your ship! Yes, Peter could have done all these things, I know people talked for days that Peter was being short with the crew. Did you check up on him? No. So it was your fault this happened! I hope you can live with yourself that the life of one man was in your hands and now it is gone. He is a shell now. It is only an matter of time before he might try something else thanks to you failing him, put that up your pipe and smoke it!" replied Sara, still outraged.

"Don't you dare try to lecture me on what a command officer does or does not do." Vorn snapped curtly, still holding her wrist in a vice-like grip. "A Federation officer must put aside their personal feelings when making decisions - like Peter has done in the past. We have a higher duty than to those whom we know in this galaxy. We have a duty to the entire Federation. Whether his former fiancée was on the planet or not, it does not alter my decision not to investigate. We were on a mission of higher importance - one that if we had failed could have resulted in more than harm coming to one person - that if we had failed could have resulted in the death of millions!"

He let go of her wrist and moved away, his back to her as he stared out the window. "You have no place questioning me about what I do on my ship, the decisions I make, and certainly not the events leading up to Peter's departure. Not only do you have no idea the responsibilities that rest on my shoulders - that rested on Peter's shoulders - but you were not even here for those events." He took a breath, trying to calm himself. He needed to retain his composure in front of this woman. He needed to make her understand that a Starfleet officer cannot go gallivanting around the galaxy on a personal whim. "And for your information, I did check up on Peter when his behaviour changed. He pushed me away. And you're damn right I care about my ship! I have a responsibility to this crew. The responsibility of protecting the lives of all four hundred and fifty crew members rests on my shoulders, and my shoulders alone. That responsibility remains forefront in my mind at all times."

Sara stared directly at him, looking at the man. After several moments of looking at him, she spoke.

"Then you failed the greatest test of being human. Something which none of you are any more. No longer human!" screamed Sara as she left the room.
