Familiar Sights

Mission: Shadows Fall
Location: USS Iapetus - Bridge
Timeline: MD01 1208hrs

"Captain's Log, Stardate 62998.1:
The Iapetus is en-route to Deep Space 7, in orbit of Allura for repairs and resupply, following our mission to the Bevrud system. I am looking forward to granting some shoreleave for the crew aboard the station before we are given our next assignment."

Vorn stepped through the door to his ready room with the familiar swoosh of the mechanism onto the bridge. His slight injuries during the coup on Bevrud had been healed completely by now, and his uniform was neatly clean and pressed. "Helm, ETA to DS7?" he asked, taking his seat at the centre of the chamber.

"ETA is seven minutes, Captain," came the response. It felt so good to be back onboard the ship, with its smooth, almost regimented procedures after his time on the planet, essentially as a fugitive. The way the ship and her crew operated like clockwork was extremely comforting.

"Very good Ensign," Vorn replied, though he noted at the back of his mind how he did not immediately recall the female officer's name - Lieutenant Riller must have assigned today's bridge shift to one of the relief officers. "Bring us out of warp, and send the station a docking request."

As the ship decelerated, the inertial dampeners smoothing the rapid speed loss to a level completely unnoticeable to its passengers, the star streaks smoothed into familiar spots of light in the starscape, and the station, along with the planet it orbited, came into view. Deep Space 7, an Immense class starbase, was an impressive sight, even if it looked far too industrial for Vorn's liking. He much preferred the smooth lines and curves that were present on many Federation ships and the stardock class stations. Even so, it was clearly more Federation in origin than their last port - Starbase 386, one of the few Nor-class starbases owned by the Federation.

"Docking permit assigned," the Ensign reported, tapping controls on her console. "We are being advised to dock to port at landing platform C."

The Nor class, at least, had more of a facility for the docking of full-sized starships. The Immense class could only handle medium-to-small ships, whose saucer sections were positioned in such a way in relation to their nacelles and engineering hulls could not impact the station if they docked at one of the four circular 'landing pads' situated near the top of the station, which also had the ability to house internally smaller craft such as runabouts and large shuttles. Vorn felt it was a needless restriction in the specifications of the station, though it didn't cause too much trouble for ships passing through, since transporters were in such widespread use.

"Very good, Ensign. Follow their approach path. Number one; inform all crewmembers that they are free to start their shoreleave as soon as we have docked."
