Abigail walked up to the big house with a sigh. Things had been very different since her parents divorced. Abigail knocked on the door and waited for a few short minutes before a young man opened the door. His eyes widened as he recognized the visitor.
"Abby! Oh it's so good to see you again! Come in, come in! Mom and Dad are in the living room."
Abigail laughed, "It's good to see you too, Andrew."
The woman followed her older brother to the living room where the rest of the family was sitting and talking. Abigail's littlest sister, Sarah dropped her glass and ran up to her sister. The two hugged and questions were shot at Abigail with relentless passion. How was she? Was the crew ok? Did she meet someone special? Did she find her post satisfactory? Abigail answered these questions and more. After the questions were finished, Abigail headed to her room and began unpacking. She was to get ready for dinner and hope that her family was through with the questions, but with her big family things were not going to be the way she wanted. Finally the woman sat on her bed and laid back. A voice drifted up from downstairs.
"Abby you need to get down here and say hello to the rest of your family!"
The woman sighed and mumbled, "Time to face the music!" She got off her bed and quickly changed into the appropiate attire. She headed downstairs where her family was stationed. Upon entering her cousins Ivy, Lauren, and Annabeth came running up to her, "Cuz! How are you?!"
Abigail scowled, "I am a grown woman! I do not use words like CUZ anymore."
The three girls laughed, "Oh please Abby. You won't be here long so please humor us."
Abigail rolled her eyes and turned away from her cousins just in time to spot her favorite uncle. Her eyes lit up and she gave the man a hug, "Uncle Ophieus! I've missed you so much!"
"I could not resist seeing my favorite niece. How have you been my stargazing little flower?"
Abigail blushed at her childhood pet name, "UNCLE!"
Ophieus just laughed and began bombarding his niece with questions of Starfleet. Abigail quickly switched into a monotous tone and answer all of the questions directed at her. Finally Abigail began getting a headache, "Let me know when dinner is ready." She turned and went back up to her room. She took some painkillers and laid down on her bed. Her first day back was exhausting and she needed to rest before dinner so she closed her eyes and began to rest, but it ended all too soon.
Ivy entered the room and jumped onto Abigail's bed, "Hey cuz!"
"GET OUT!"
Ivy leapt up in shock and anger, "How dare you?!"
"She is right. You did not bother to knock. Of course she would scream at you to get out." Ivy and Abigail turned to see Lauren, Annabeth, Ophieus, and Abigail's brother Andrew. The four of them had looks of anger on their own faces. Ivy left reluctantly. Laurn turned and said, "She has not changed at all, but you have. I remember the meek little girl that cowered when Ivy came around. Now you angered her. Watch out cousin!"
Abigail shut her door and closed her eyes again. Her headache had intensified and she was sure the painkillers were not working. She made a mental note to ask Winter for some medicine while she was here. Abigail had indeed changed from the meek little girl that she had been.
A soft knocked woke Abigail up from her nap. The door opened and Lauren poked her head around the corner, "Dinner's ready. Your mother says to come down soon. How's that headache?"
"It's better. It's from all the questions."
"I'll tell them to tone down the questions and not to interrigate you about the Iapetus. You should be having fun, not spending your time with headaches."
Abigail smiled at her cousin and knew that Lauren had also changed. She had been a follower of her twin sister. Their little cousin Annabeth was the geek type and was able to ignore her cousins. Together the two women walked to the backyard where it had been decorated with a Welcome Home Abby! sign above the backdoor. Abigail sighed and shook her head. Things were going to get VERY interesting. She stepped outside and began to get her plate of food. Her time with her family was going to be very strainious on her.
