Mission:
Dark Discoveries
Location: mess hall
Timeline: an hour after departure
Warrant Officer Linnix stared at his plate of food, all of which was seeming especially unappetizing. Hasperat with a side of collard greens and a glass of Telrubian cola. This was typically a meal that the young medical technician enjoyed, but at the moment, seemed about as appetizing as a plate of half dead meal worms. He had already completed the easy task of reporting aboard the ship to Captain Krace, however his anxiety was in reporting into the Iapetus' sickbay for duty.
He was scheduled to be the on duty medical technician for gamma shift, and had a few hours to kill before reporting in for duty. His insides were wrenched with fear of doing something wrong on his first day of work. Rationally, he knew that he had nothing to worry about. He was more than confident in his skills as a paramedic, and knew his duties and limitations as a med-tech by heart. He knew the simple protocol of reporting in for a duty shift. All the same, his jaws were clenched shut as he rapped his knuckles on the table feverishly. Every time he was to report to a new post, this happened, and every time, everything ended up going smoothly.
He knew the anxiety would pass. Ignoring the sensation of his heart fluttering within his chest like an injured bird, he managed to force himself to take a gulp of the soda. As he felt the acidic cool of the beverage trace down the length of his esophagus, he a bit calmed. He took a moment to look around the mess hall. Like the mess hall on every other Starfleet establishment he had ever been on, it was teaming with life. He took solace in all of the smiling faces of the strangers around him. No one knew him or noticed him, but that wouldn't remain the case for long. As he took a deep breath and a searing bite of hesperat, he enjoyed if only for a moment, his complete anonymity. His heart palpitations seemed to vanish when he realized that in effect, he wasn't even there at all.
OOC: I hope it is ok that I wrote it so that Linnix already reported aboard. I didn't think that his reporting in for duty would have been significant enough to have made a separate post for.
