Regrets

Mission: Heart of an Explorer
Location: Quarters of Ensign Alistair Ross
Timeline: MDO1 1858 hours

Alistair sat at his desk reading an old novel on his PADD. He enjoyed reading 21st century novels, especially post apocalyptic type novels. He reclined farther in his chair and rested his feet on the desk, he knew their time at base was short and so he was relaxing as much as he could before the Iapetus was sent on its next mission. The whole crew was aware of the Captain's meeting with Admiral Zhan and they new they wouldn't be back in familair territory for a while. The silence was comforting, the only sounds hear could hear were the distant repairmen fixing the damage the ship had received. He felt fortunate his quarters were not damaged so he could still relax while the crew waited for their next assignment. Suddenly his veiw screen lit up with a private messege for him. He sat his PADD down and clicked the monitor on revealing his mothers face, she looked quite saddened and somber.

"Hi mom, is everything okay?"

"I have some bad news Al.....your brother...." She could not finished as tears filler her eyes

"Mom? What happened?"

"Your brother is dead Al...the shuttle he was piloting suffered a malfunction....there was hardly any wreckage left...."

Alistair sat back slowly, he could not believe what his mother was telling him. His brother was now dead, and he couldn't even say goodbye. The last conversation they had ended in an argument, they always did. Both Alistair and Brent were both strongly opinionated and bull-headed. He wished now he could have seen him again before he went aboard the Iapetus.

"Will there be a service?"

"I don't think i could handle doing one for him after what i went through with your fathers.....I will have him buried at our estate. I have to go son, be safe and i love you soo much. Goodbye"

"Bye mom"

Alistair's head was spinning, he didn't know what to do or think. He decided to take a walk. With that, he was out the door.
