New Office

Mission: Renewed Beginnings
Location: USS Iapetus - Bridge
Timeline: MD03 2310hrs

When the status notification from the Starbase's engineers had been uploaded to his databank, Vorn had decided right there and then that he would head up to check it out. Nevermind the fact that it was nearly midnight on the ship, with all of the lighting duly adjusted to a lower level - this was something that the engineers had been working on since the ship docked and he approved the plans for it, and considering he considered it his office and working space, he was eager to see the results.

"Bridge," he ordered as he stepped into the turbolift. Thankfully any work that had needed to be done in his quarters as part of the upgrades to the ship had been completed long ago and he hadn't had to start living on the station since he'd been back aboard, even though he had been working from there.

The soft hum of the turbolift machinery was a comforting sound, but the constant pitch only seemed to heighten the sense of anticipation he felt rising within himself. As the sound finally stopped and the doors opened, he stood face-to-face with an engineer; clearly on his way out after finishing up and releasing the turbolift lock-out. "Oh!" the man cried in surprise. "Captain! I'm sorry!"

"Don't worry about it," Vorn said casually, moving around and past the man to stand in the centre of his new bridge and take it all in.

The three command chairs were in essentially the same place as they were previously, but they were now surrounded by a thick, curved oak beam reminiscent of that fitted on Galaxy-class vessels. Embedded within the uppermost portion, on a higher level of decking than the front of the bridge, was the generic mission operations console; capable of being put into use for a wide variety of functions as needed by the mission at hand. On the wall opposite the station filling the space between the two rear turbolift exits was the Master Systems Display, a computerised view of the entire ship as a side-on cutaway, showing various status icons related to the ship's repairs and the various lock-outs on certain sections of the ship.

To either side of the bridge were various consoles against the wall, such as engineering, science and communications, and as free-standing consoles almost flanking the central bridge chairs were the operations and tactical consoles. Operations had moved from its former place right at the fore of the bridge in order to provide for a far larger helm console, which now occupied the space that the two stations formerly shared; the chair of which was fitted to a rail in the floor to allow the helmsman to quickly move from one end of the console to the other.

"If you have any problems," the engineer said, having been completely forgotten by Vorn in his eagerness to see his new bridge, "we'll be on-hand until you leave dock. After that, your chief engineer should be able to handle any other maintenance issues."

"Thank you," the captain said absently, moving down the steps to the centre of the bridge and towards his new command chair. His old one had been completely replaced, and he only noticed now that he saw the new one just how worn the leather had become on it; having picked up a completely different shade of brown than that it had originally had as it was used by himself and the other officers who were at various times in command of the bridge - apparently even synthesised leather faded with wear.

As he lowered himself into his seat, he noted how it supported him far more comfortably in the places where his old had been overused, flattening the cushioned padding under the leather, and he relaxed back into it happily, reaching over to flip open the control surface on the arm-rests.

"It's good to be home," he muttered, likely to the once-again-forgotten engineer's bemusement, as he realised that until this moment the last three days hadn't really felt as if he had come back home to his ship without having a bridge to come to.

He tapped the controls to inform the station staff that he would no longer be needing the office on the station and that anything he had left there could be transferred to his ready room with immediate effect.
