Meeting Her Department Head

Location: Abigail Valera's Quarters => Chief Science Officer's Office

ON:

Bonnie sat in the mess hall during her lunch break and began to go over some of the star charts she brought with her. She finished up her lunch and realized that she had not meet the Chief Science Officer.

"Computer who is the current Chief Science Officer on board and what is their current location?" Bonnie said as she exited the mess hall.

The computer replied, "The current Chief Science Officer is Lieutenant Abigail Valera. She is currently in her quarters."

Bonnie went to the nearest turbolift and told the computer her destination.

A moment later Bonnie was standing outside Chief Valera's quarters.

Pressing the chime Bonnie waited.

Abigail sat with her legs dangling over the side of a chair. She heard her door chime go off and she raised her eyes up. Eyebrows raised and curious she sat the correct way in the chair and called out, "Enter!"

Bonnie entered Abigail's quarters. "Sorry to disturbe you ma'am but the computer told me that you were in your quarters and not in your office." said Bonnie.

Abigail smiled, "You must be Ensgin Myers. Please have a seat. As for me being in my quarters I find it more comfortable and its easier to think." Abigail stood up, "May I interest you in anything to drink? Water? Milk?"

"Water is fine." said Bonnie.

Abigail nodded and asked the replicator for the required drinks. "Here you go. Now what brings you here?"

"Well..." Bonnie said sheepishly. "I am your Astrometrics officer and I haven't had a chance to introuce myself until now." said Bonnie.

Abigail smiled, "Glad to have you as part of the team Miss. Myers. Please tell me a little bit about yourself." Abigail thought to herself, 'FINALLY! I have a member in the science department.... I wonder how come I haven't met Bonnie yet. If she has been here some time I should have known about her... It must have been that attack near the Dark Nebula that scattered my brain.'

"Well I am from a small town in the State of Virginia on Earth. I have degree's in planetary science, Astrology, Stellar Phenominons, and meteorology." said Bonnie.

"I have been transfered here from the Alpha 3 base on Galor Prime, and I look forward to serving with you and the rest of the department."

Abigail smiled again, "I'm glad to have you as part of the team Bonnie. As long as you and I are alone, discussing the day, going over reports, whatever, you may call me Abigail. In public eye however you'll have to call me Lieutenant until the others see us together often enough for me to call you Bonnie and you to call me Abigail."

Abigail was silent for a moment and then said, "I was born to a Patrick Valera and a Sophia Maverik. My parents married, but later devorced. My mother is now remarried. I never knew my stepfather and I don't care too really." Abigail became sad, "I had three sisters and two brothers. My favorite sister, Onyx, died when she was four of an unknown illness. My family, the doctor, and I did all we could, but Onyx was too weak to even take her medicine anymore. Finally I told the doctor and my parents quietly that I thought it would be best to not let Onyx suffer anymore." Abigail had tears in her eyes, "My parents and the doctor agreed and they put Onyx to sleep and she never woke up. I didn't put that in my application because I didn't feel ready to tell anyone yet. Your the first person I've told since my sister's death years ago." Abigail brightened agained, "Silly me. I'm acting like a total crybaby. I am your head officer and if you have any questions then come to me. I will see what I can do about answering them. Also your to report to me at 08:30 every morning for your daily assignment. For now I just want you to get used to the idea of working in the Science Department and to help me figure out what the heck happened awhile back with the strange attack that we had... oh and Peter told me that the whole Science Department has extra holodeck time."

Bonnie reach out with a comforting hand. "Hey. If you ever want to talk about anything, even though you are my department head I would like to offer an ear."

Abigail smiled, "Thanks. Your a good person Bonnie. I'm glad your part of my department." Abigail squeezed Bonnie's hand and said, "Come on. Let's go to my office and we can talk more there. Better lighting anyway."

"Lead the way." said Bonnie as she stood and waited for Abigail.

Abigail led the way to the her office. It was a little smaller, but the lighting was better and the chairs were more comfortable. She entered her office and offered Bonnie a seat, "Sit down." Abigail took a seat at her desk, "This is my office. Normally I would only be doing one position, but I signed on as the Biologist as well. So if you need something from either part, science in general or something from the biology labs, then you come to me. I don't like it when others go behind my back. Be forwarned. Should I find that you took something that didn't need to be used at that time then I will be very upset. I have a sign-in and sign-out sheet for those items. This is my way of keeping track of the equipment and to keep inventory." She took out the paper and said, "Don't worry. When you write all you would put is your name, the stardate, and the item(s) that you took(take). Oh and how long it will be used for. This is to keep organized and let others know when to expect that item(s) back. Any questions?"

Bonnie took in what Abigail said. "None at this moment."

"Good. As time goes on then I will explain more things to you. For now that's all. Just look around the labs and get a feel for them. If you want to test some of the equipment then let me know so I can help you. Dismissed." Abigail smiled at Bonnie, pleased that the young woman was part of the Science Department. Abigail knew the two of them may end up to be friends.

Bonnie stood up and snapped to attention before turning around and leaving the Office of her Department Head.
