Captain's Log, Stardate 62825.3

While I've ordered the crew to investigate the starship or starships which have been harvesting the metreon energy from this nebula, I have ordered that we move 4000 kilometres out from it's edge, for three reasons.

The first is the more tangible and technological. It is simply that our long-range sensors and communications were being hampered by the nebula's engulfing gases, and to successfully locate the ship in question, we will need the full use of our advanced sensor suite, as well as access to the central archives of the Federation for the data we need.

The second is much more personal. I've caught myself being distracted a number of times already today, my mind wandering from my work. It has come to the point where now even some of the junior bridge staff have caught me in such moments, and had to snap me out of it. I feel that this is an effect of these life forms I am now so linked to, as if their background voices are taking up the space of my normal thoughts, and it still takes some concious effort to erect these 'mental walls' the doctor spoke of. Now that we have moved outside of the nebula, I have definitely noticed a change in the amount I have been distracted, but only slightly. I fear that the effects of these beings' mental prowess will only diminish upon my mind once we leave the system, if at all.

I only hope that the crew start finding some answers, or some sort of lead soon. The possibility of a metreon bio-weapon is too great to ignore or put on the side for days at a time.
