Mission:
Docked
Location: USS Lincoln - Sickbay
Timeline: MD 1
The Master Chief Petty Officer sat nervously, looking around the sickbay as he waited to be attended to. He could stand anything. That is, anything but this. This was an abomination, it would seem. He was a great, brave warrior struck down by the fear of medicine.
Nurse Rosek came into the Office after showing Raging Eagle the Biobed to sit on. "Dr, the Master Chief is in for his Physical."
Annalyn stood and started into the Sickbay proper, "I want you to get the blood for blood tests while I do the rest."
"Yes Dr." she left to get her equipment.
Walking up to the biobed. "Chief, you are our first one in. I am very glad to see you."
Gulping carefully, he tilted his head, immediately shaking it. He sighed slowly, cosigning himself to the event that was about to take place, "Maybe I should have stalled a bit more than, would that have been a better idea?"
"Chief, are you afraid of your Medicine Man?" Annalyn said with a grin.
Raising his eyebrow, he took exception to the jest, "Are you patronizing me?"
"No, Not at all, but I can't believe you are afraid in here, the Nurse will take some blood, that is a tiny prick, then I will do a scan. If you will lay back."
Annalyn picked up a Padd, made a note on it while Nurse took some blood. Putting down the Padd and picking up her tricorder. "Is there anything going on with you at this time, that I should be aware of. Headaches, anything?"
"I do suffer from headaches that, most likely, can be traced to my implants. I trust you know about my implants?"
"How long ago did you receive the implants?" She started the scan, leaving a hand on his forehead."
"It would have to be at least four years now....why do you ask?"
"I am going to have to reasearch this, there may be new ones that are less invasive. I am showing some swelling in that area around the implants. That could mean a rejection of the Implants, which we don't want. That would explain the headaches." She scanned his head more.
The young man shrugged, "I always thought that all ocular corrections like this, for blindness, were met with headaches. I thought that was normal."
"Not if the work is done correctly, and the body accepts the implants. I would say yours is not, or at least at this time, starting to reject them. I can give you something to help, until I can see what is available now. Medical advancements are happening daily now." She moved to his arms. "Did you break your arm at any time in the past?"
"So you mean I am going to have to undergo another surgical procedure so that I can have them changed out?"
"It is possible, we will see what I find when I research it. It could be it just needs a bit of fluid around it, I don't know yet, I will let you know what I find. Now about this arm?"
He nodded, "Though they work well enough for vision. I will never see as I once did. Arm? What's wrong with my arm?"
"There is a slight calcium build up, why I wondered if you had ever broke it?"
"If I said I did multiple times.."
"Well that would explain that then." She continued down his body.
"Any other breaks I need to be aware of?"
Looking up with concern strewn in his face, he began to speak again, "Does something need to be done for it? I had it healed...other breaks?"
"No, I just wanted to know why the calcium was there, other breaks, like legs, hands, head. Anywhere else in the body?"
"You mean that are outstanding?"
"Well yes."
"I have had them all treated."
"Yes Chief, I realize that, but they will leave signs any Doctor with a tricorder can find, the calcuim is thicker there. How many things have been broken?"
"That arm, multiple times. My left leg. A phalange as well.. I think."
"Hummm, I see, you need to be more careful you know." She finished the scan, "You may sit up now."
He slowly did so, "You do realize what I did, right?"
"Like getting in fights, or when you lost your sight?"
"I did guard duty on the USS Triskelion. I got injured in the line of duty. I can keep my fists in my pockets."
"That is good to know, I am sorry you got injured, but you are all well and here comes nurse with your blood results." She took the Padd. "Hummm, Wait here for a minute," she left the bed area to go into the office.
His eyes grew wide again as he laid back down, "This can't be good..."
It took her almost 5 minutes to find the information she needed about implant rejection, and what to do for it. Leaving her office she went and got a mix of drugs to help with that.
Returning to the biobed, she quickly gave him a hypospray of the mixture. "I want you to just lay here for a bit, to make sure there is not a reaction to what I gave you, but it should help make you feel better, less headaches for a few days."
Nodding carefully, he looked up once more, "When will I need another dosage?"
"I would think in about a week, or at the first sign of a headache. I will research and see, there have been some rejection of implants before so there is quite a bit on it, the head doesn't like strange things planted in it and is less accepting than the rest of the body."
Exhaling, he thought for a few moments, "Well then...is this to be permanent?"
"I don't really think so, as I said I will dig very deeply into this problem. You should not have to suffer with headaches all the time if something can be done about it."
"Well, I certainly suppose that I should thank you."
"Not really necessary, my job is to keep you healthy. Constant headaches are not really healthy. I am just glad it is something easy to fix."
"Well, I have had to deal with them for over a year now. The medical department was...understaffed to say the least before you got here."
"I think you can leave now. If you suddenly develop difficulty breathing, your tongue feels swollen, or you can't swallow, I want a yell. An immediate yell, no waiting."
He raised his eyebrow as he started to stand, "Oh, that's convincing.."
"I certainly hope so, that is a Medical Emergency, no waiting."
"You're really comforting, you know that?"
"If you have a reaction to what I just gave you, I don't want to be comforting. I want to impress upon you the urgency to get back to me so I can take care of that."
"Of course I'd get back to you if I was choking!"
"Lets do it before that happens, like when the throat is swelling please?"
With a disgusted face, he nodded, taken back.
Annalyn turned away. Looking back over her shoulder, "I really don't expect that to happen, it would have by now if it was going to, but you still need to be aware. I will let you know what I find out about your eyes."
"Am I still needed?"
"No, you can go, but if the headaches come back, you come back here so we can fix it."
