Diversion Tactics

Posted on Fri May 14th, 2010 @ 6:41pm by Captain Vorn Krace & Commander Peter Brown

Mission: Borderline Diplomacy
Location: Bevrud Capital
Timeline: MD08 1248rs

Krace and Brown had spent the last hour since leaving the safe house moving through the streets on Bevrud, taking care to stay unseen as they headed towards the centre of the city. Several times they had had to take a detour through the unfamiliar streets, and as a result had reached their target later than originally hoped for.

Their target was analogous to a bus depot, with a few of the larger self-piloting vehicles parked inside the large open doors of the warehouse-like building. With the coup still in progress, the streets were quiet, with just the odd brave citizen and Shintaki armed men moving around. The depot itself stood across a large square from where the two Starfleet officers stood in the shadows, surveying their destination.

"We need to get over there, and quickly," Vorn said, looking at his chronometer, aware that they were already late.

Peter looked at the building, then looked around the different points of getting across. He licked his finger and placed it in the air, then noticed the wind level. Then he looked at a bus moving towards the warehouse.

"Right; in thirty seconds we run to that bus," replied Peter, pointing then looking at the Captain. He then pointed at a dark overhang.

"We regroup there," continued Peter, as he looked at the Captain, hoping that he would actually trust him to get this mission complete.

"Then let's go," Vorn said simply, running out to move alongside and in the cover of the moving bus, before darting back out at its closest point to the overhang Peter had pointed to. Waiting the few short seconds it took for the commander to catch up with him, he moved cautiously towards the entrance to the bus depot, attempting to peer inside.

The depot was open both ends, and there were two stationary buses inside; three including the one they had used for cover, which was just drawing to a stop inside a parking bay near one of the edge of the large room. Checking that noone was watching, Vorn ducked quickly inside the depot building, moving along the walls and staying in the shadows until he reached a ladder reaching up to maintenance walkways hidden in the darkness of the room's ceiling.

Handing Peter a tricorder and PADD - both of Bevrud design, but configured to be easier for the Starfleet officers to use - out of the pack he had brought with him from the safe house, he pointed towards one of the buses. "Interface your tricorder with that bus, then upload the new control algorithms on the PADD," he said. "We'll regroup behind that bus," he pointed to the one on the other side of the room, before turning and scaling the ladder quickly. His target bus was in the centre of the depot, out in the open. The only way he would be able to get near it unseen was to use the walkways.

Peter then took the padd and entered a Command Override pathway command, re-routing though the secondary command control interface. As he entered the commands, he felt pain surge though his body. He knew that he needed to get to sickbay, but he gain to continue on so when he returned to the Ship he could get treated for the injuries he suffered in the Devil's Nebula.

"Okay; Enable Program" ordered Peter as he looked around and darted across the depot until he got to his position.

Vorn, having managed to get close enough in the shadowy walkways to the bus in the middle of the depot, dropped down as quietly as he could near the bus he and Peter were meeting behind, wincing not only at the thud of his landing, but the slight pain he felt upon hitting the floor. Leaning his back against the so-far untouched bus and peered round the corner at the two affected buses.

"Send your bus full speed reverse, with a turning arc of 2 degrees," he told Peter, tapping in commands for his own hijacked remote control bus to head full speed ahead. "Execute on my command." The new orders into the buses circuitry would send each one in an opposite direction, each to career a high speed into a building that Vorn had suitably picked out to be least likely to cause any casualties. This was, afterall, just a distraction.

As he waited for the opportune moment to give the order, he uploaded a similar virus to the bus they were hidden behind. This one, however, would leave the bus' avoidance programming intact, preventing it from hitting any buildings until it reached a pre-programmed destination - which in this case was the very edge of the vehicle control network.

"Now!" Hitting a control on his PADD, Vorn listened as the engines of each bus roared to life. As he heard the impacts, he motioned for Peter to follow him, as they darted out of the depot and ducked into an alley down the street.

Once the two were safely hidden away, Vorn hit the control to execute the command on the third and final bus, and the two officers watched it as it drove itself past at full speed, scraping past other vehicles as it rounded a corner.

"Job done. Let's get back," Vorn said, as the two began making their way back.
