The Return of a Lost Officer

Mission: Shadows Fall
Location: Earth/U.S.S Iapetus
Timeline: Two Weeks Ago (MM2, MD16)

Peter was sitting in his office at home. After talking to Marie, he had decided to return to Starfleet. He pressed the Comm.

"Computer, contact the U.S.S Iapetus on 535.635 Alpha-Seven Channel."

"Acknowledged, channel open," came the computer's reply.


"U.S.S Iapetus, this is Peter Brown. Could I speak to Captain Vorn Krace?"

The response over the comm-channel was nearly instantaneous. "The Captain is in a meeting at present," came the response of a junior communications officer. "What is the requested contact regarding?"

"The requested contact is regarding former Commander Peter Brown," finished Peter slowly, as going back to Starfleet was the hardest thing he had to do after what had happened.

There was a pause on the channel, evidently as the officer looked up the name in the ship records. "One moment, Sir, I'll put you through."

There was another pause on the line, as Vorn undoubtedly put a pause on whatever meeting it was that he was in, before his voice came on the line. "This is Krace. Peter, is that you?"

"Yes Captain, its me; Peter. Long time no see," replied Peter as he prepared his thoughts to ask Vorn for his job back.

Vorn paused a moment, as he sent whomever it was he was having a meeting with out of his ready room, before opening a visual channel. "Yes, it is," he said, lacing his hands together as he leaned on the desk in his ready room. "What can I do for you?"


"As you Know I resigned dropping down to my previous rank of Lieutenant; then went on the Starfleet Reserve Roster. But you see, I recently have been thinking I can't stay away from Starfleet, and there is only one ship I want to serve on; the Iapetus. I know what I did in the past was wrong, I only hope you will see it in yourself to allow me to return to serving you," finished Peter. The way he spoke showed how he had changed back to the person he was before all this happened.

Vorn could understand Peter's feeling of loss. Many officers who had left the service had felt it hard to re-adapt to civilian life, and often came back to Starfleet. He sighed deeply, as he looked his old friend in the face. "You know that both Starfleet and myself will place certain concessions on you Peter if you come back, primarily surrounding your communications protocols and privileges. I know you've paid your dues for what you did, but they'll have to be enforced to ensure that you don't fall to the manipulations of anybody else again, and that the people involved don't try to get in touch with you again."

Peter took a deep breath before replying. "Yes I realise that, and understand that there will be things put in place to protect me and more so the ship. If its all possible... is my old job in Ops still there?"

Vorn nodded. "We are currently in search of a Chief Operations Officer, yes," he said. "I suppose it would be more beneficial to us to take on someone with a certain amount of experience at the station, and with the ship herself." He paused again, as he brought up a few different files on his LCARs terminal. "I see you've already put your request through Starfleet Personnel, and you've been reactivated, pending assignment." He diverted his attention back to the screen. "How soon can you get here?"

Peter checked his other Screen quickly then Spoke again "Well; I am on Earth now and from the location I see from Starfleet Records your on the way to the Union Gateway. With a Runabout I could be there in 11 Days, max." Peter said.

"I'll see you in 11 days then. Krace out." Vorn responded, closing the channel.
