Mission: The Fate of the Swiftsure
Location: USS Iapetus Brig
Timeline: MD09 0200hrs

[ON]

Captain Are'gul Allowing paced the short cell that half his crew had been locked in. He hated waiting. Before getting his ship (and thereby his current rank), he had been the squad leader of a very successful raider operation. He had led his men on planet-based missions as well as in space. Missions to pillage, rape, and steal. Those had been the glory days. Unfortunately, pillage just wasn't what it used to be, and everyone has bills.

Are'gul looked to one of his men, who nodded silently at his commander. They had been stripped of all time-keeping devices, as was standard operating procedures for Starfleet, but, Are'gul had one of his men literally keep count. Timing was everything. And, according to that man, it was now directly in the middle of the third shift. The least amount of crew were up and about, meaning that the least amount of crew would be able to hinder them. Are'gul had a feeling that they would not appreciate what he was about to do...

Aregul pointed towards another one of his men, specifically, his first mate. Jxace Raker had been with him for several years, going back to his ground-pounding years. Perhaps even more importantly, before that, Jxace had been special forces in one of the local quasi-governments. Basically, he was a handy guy to have around when you needed something done.

Jxace nodded and spit something out of his mouth. He took just a second to work his tired jaw, having held the shielded container therin for some time. The container that he had just spit out was roughly cylindrical, about the size of a very large pill. Furthermore, it cost more then a years salary for him. Jxace used the edge of his thumbnail to pry open the container, exposing the delicate circuitry inside. A steady green light winked back from inside, letting Jxace know that the device was working as intended. He carefully pressed a concealed button on the inside, once again using just the edge of his fingernail, then tossed it to the edge of the force field that shut them from the rest of the ship. He looked to his commander and held up five fingers, then slowly ticked down.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Bigby had the watch. one of the two cells currently occupied had the command crew in it. The other cell, the one not occupied by the pirate captain and his minions, held the regular crew. Bigby didn't think that they had very many IQ points among the lot of them, but, they were pretty big. Currently, one was doing sit-ups with the aide of another. Bigby had tried to count how many the grunt had done so far, but, gave up after the mountain of flesh reached 500. He sighed as he glanced over to the other cell, then blinked. Everyone in that cell was hunkered down, as trying to shield themselves from a blast.

"What the hell...?" Bigby started to say, as he got to his feet, just in time to catch the EMP blast. Although the EMP did very little physical damage, it completely destroyed all electronics within five meters of the blast. Another little trick that it accomplished was a bright flash, bright enough to temporarily blind the unfortunate Petty Officer.

Jxace rushed out of the cell, heading directly to the hapless security guard. With a quick kick, Jxace sent the guard to his knees, and reached for the guards chin and the back of his head. An audible CRACK was heard, and then the guard slumped to the floor, never to rise again. Meanwhile, Are'gul led the rest of his crew out. The EMP has succeeded in knocking out both cells force fields, and a good bit of miscellaneous circuitry.

A Klaxon began to sound, a computer voice announcing over the ship's intercom what had just happened.

Are'gul muttered a sharp expletive and then turned to his crew. His sources had given him a detailed schematic of the Iapetus, and he, in turn, had made his entire crew memorize it. "Alright, we know what we need do to. Alpha team, move to the engineering node on Deck eight. Destroy it. Bravo Team, hit the operations node at Deck three. We will transport you ourselves. Just get those shields down, or else we aren't going anywhere. The rest of you, follow me. We have to get to that damned transporter.

Are'gul turned, and saw that his XO had already broken into a small weapons locker. Explosives could do wonders to get you into a locked cabinet, and since there wasn't much reason to be quiet anymore... He hadn't known that their main computer system was tied into this brig. "Thrice Damned Starfleet!" he muttered.

He grabbed one of the offered rifles and looked at his crew. Although the weapons locker held only a few of these 'phasers', it would be enough to accomplish the objectives. He led his part of the crew out of the brig, firing at any crew members who happened to duck their heads out, leading them at a sprint towards their goal.

Acle sat up abruptly, a red light flashing in his room and an alarm sounding throughtout it. He had only just gotten to sleep a hour before, and now this. The sleep completely cleared from his mind as he heard the computer's voice.

Acle quickly rolled out of his bunk, clad only in his loose fitting silk pajama bottoms and rushed over to his desk. Thumbing open a concealed keypad, Acle entered in a 5-digit password. A click was heard followed by a quiet hiss. A small drawer opened, revealing a compact Starfleet-issue phaser and an even smaller disruptor. Acle left the disruptor where it was and grabbed the phaser, sliding the drawer shut after. He quickly moved to the door, grabbing a shirt that hung nearby on his way out.

Acle stepped outside the hatch, looking both ways, before sliding the hastily grabbed shirt over his head. It was the matching top to his bottoms, but, was sleeveless. Acle sighed inwardly, but, rushed to the turbo-lift, still barefoot.

Jxace stepped into the transporter room first, coming face to face with a hastily assembled security team. Two crewmembers stood inside, guarding one of the few exits from the ship. For a moment, nothing happened, then Jxace, and the two crewmembers fired at once.

Both shots hit the pirate XO squarely in the chest. The phasers were not set to stun. Jxace's shot hit the left security guard squarely in the face, killing her. Are'gul was next through the hatch and quickly sighted the lone security member, dispatching them. The rest of his crew hastily filed into the room. Are'gul barely spared a glance for Jxace as he moved to the transporter control. He alone had the knowledge to use the instrument. He had hoped he had fooled the starfleet captain when he had pretended not to know about transporters.

He ordered his crew hastily on the pad, his engineer going first. "Prep the ship for immediate departure. Open fire on this vessel as soon as you can." he ordered, then shifted the lever. The crew vanished in a hum of particles. Are'gul concentrated, then located the first of his teams, hoping that they were finished, before beaming them out as well.

USS Iapetus Bridge

Acle arrived on the bridge, seeing general panic consuming it. The captain was not yet here.

"Commander!" The operations watch stander cried out. "They have somehow cut power to our shields and weaponry. I no longer have tractor control!"

"Commander!" The engineering watch stander cried out. "Engineering controls are gone."

Acle steeled himself then began barking orders. "Calm down!" he barked. Immediately, the bridge hush stilled. "You are Starfleet Officers!" Acle reminded them, not needing to say anything else. "Operations, try to rout control and power through an axillary feed. They couldn't have cut off the main power, there hasn't been enough time, they must have hit a central feed. Engineering, get someone in the engineering bay to manually power the engines. I want navigational control five minutes ago." Acle said, moving to the center of the bridge, compact phaser still held in one hand.

"I want a full security team up here on the double. If they take control of the bridge, we're done." Acle said.

The operations watchstander spoke up again. "Sir, someone is using the transporter... They are transporting to the pirate vessel!" he said.

Acle cursed inwardly. He had assumed that the pirates meant to take over the Iapetus, not simply get away.

"Get me weapons, now! Disable that ship if you can, destroy it if you cannot!" Acle said, giving authorization for lethal measures.

Are'gul smiled as the last of his men were beamed away. There was only two men and himself. However, to much time had passed, and he was sure more of their blasted security was on its way. He ordered the two men to guard his escape, lying to them about how the transporter worked, telling them that they would be beamed back shortly thereafter. Not only would the transporter not beam the two men back, but, five seconds after the computer confirmed that his transport had been successful, it would short-circuit, frying the console and some of the electronics beneath the pad itself. In addition, the pirate captain had implanted a trojan virus of sorts, although all it would accomplish is to submit a message made expressively to the ship's commanding officer. Are'gul's smile broadened as he thought about the starfleet captain's expression when he received that particular message.

He set the transporter to remotely beam, then stepped onto the pad. He had some business to attend to... Specifically, some nosy starfleet officers to pick up. The starfleet captain would read all about it when he got the message.

Just as he was beginning to fade, he saw the hatch open and his men valiantly open fire, only to be struck down in a hailstorm of fire from the onrushing security team.

The pirate vessel turned away from the Iapetus, letting loose with its weapons. The shots hit the well armored hull of the Iapetus, causing little real damage, but, shook the ship all the same. The pirate ship arced away from the Iapetus, heading to the asteroid field.
