The First of Many

Posted on Fri Apr 24th, 2009 @ 6:57pm by Captain Vorn Krace

Mission: Dark Discoveries
Location: USS Iapetus - Shuttlebay
Timeline: MD5 0006hrs (Backpost)

Vorn knew that it was the dead of night, but he had also received the message from the shuttle of their arrival, and he wanted to be there to greet the Iapetus' first ever passenger. That, and he wanted to know if there was anything special about this person to make Commander Earlond feel the need to contact him and ask him to go and pick her up.

He watched as the shuttle entered through the particle field keeping the air inside the shuttlebay and settled down in the centre of the deck. The Flight Control crew would re-position it for storage later. As he watched the shuttle's hatch open, he tugged at his uniform slightly, getting rid of a crease near his right shoulder.

Elizabeth rose as the shuttle powered down, then walked out the hatch and onto the flight deck. To her surprise, the captain was there to greet her. "Captain Krace?" she guessed, coming to stand before him.

"Yes, you must be Ms. Narton." Vorn replied, extending his hand. "I'm sorry for the late hour of this pick up, but it seems you have a friend who preferred you be off the station and aboard the Iapetus as soon as we could manage."

Elizabeth frowned. She wasn't aware of any friends on the station. "I'm not sure what you mean," she said to the captain. "Who wanted me off the station?"

"One Commander Earlond." Vorn replied, remembering clearly the name that had been supplied in his conversation with the man.

Elizabeth was even more confused. When they had last spoken, Commander Earlond had seemed quite angry at her. Why would he request a shuttle sent for her?

"I'm not really sure what exactly went on with that," Elizabeth told Vorn. "But I suppose I'll eventually figure it out. I should probably get out of your way - you don't need a civilian taking up your day. Where can I find my quarters?"

"Not at all," Vorn replied. He really didn't have anything to do at this hour anyway, he'd just felt the need to see who he had been requested to pick up. "If you'll follow me, I'll show you to them," he said, indicating the shuttlebay door with his hand.

Picking up her bags, Elizabeth followed Vorn. Her thoughts kept going back to Commander Earlond - what had that man been thinking, calling a shuttle back for a civilian?

Leading the way out into the corridor, Vorn lead them both towards the turbolift. "Deck 7, crew quarters." he instructed it. As the chamber reached the appropriate location, he stepped out, leading the way to the quarters on this deck. "On this deck, you also have the "Ridge", our onboard combined mess-hall and community area, as well as the ship's library, gym, and two of the holodecks onboard. And these are your quarters," he said, as they reached the appropriate doorway.

"Thank you very much, Captain," Elizabeth said. "I'm truly sorry for making you send a shuttle out to get me. I really have no idea what Commander Earlond was up to."

"It broke the monotomy." Vorn said, smiling. The last few days had hardly been monotonous, but he didn't want their first of hopefully many passengers to feel unwelcome. "I'll leave you to get some rest. Goodnight." With that, he turned and walked back towards the turbolift.

Elizabeth turned to her room, walking in to prepare for her stay on the Iapetus.
