I'm not sure I can adequately put into words the enormity of what has happened here. One minute we're on our way to reach the Delta Quadrant and then suddenly we're caught up in this.

I'd heard of the Marconi before we ran into them at Regula. Their captain and his crew were renowned for their scientific abilities which, I imagine, explains why they were assigned all the way out here to the continuation of the Genesis project. Sure, it was a small-scale operation but there was no reason to really classify the work they were doing. Atmospheric studies and terraforming investigations. It was hardly exciting to most of Starfleet but there were some who were taking a bit more than a passing interest.

It's preposterous to think that the Marconi would call on us but having seen it go up in a blaze in front of our eyes, I'm glad we were around. Think about it. If we hadn't been here, no-one would have known the fate of the Marconi for weeks until their report was expected.

As it stands we're now stuck out here trying to work out what the hell happened while Captain Kaldor slowly loses his mind. I think the sense of guilt that he has might be starting to really get to him. It's something I might need to get Counselor Duvall to look into.
