The Adventures Begin Anew

Mission:
Docked
Location: Starbase 386-B - TFCO's Office
Timeline: MD02 - 1000 Hours
Vorn once again approached the room where he had only yesterday received his promotion. He'd received a summons to the office yesterday for a meeting at ten hundred hours and so, here he was. He nodded at the enlisted man standing next to the Admiral's door as the man chimed the door control to inform the Admiral of the Captain's presence - as if he hadn't already noticed him walking by his window.
The doors slid open and Admiral Locke deactivated his desktop viewer as he had done the first time they met. "Captain Krace, have a seat," Jason said, this time skipping the pleasantries such as a handhsake.
"I hope it's not bad news you've brought me here for, Admiral." Vorn joked.
"Don't worry Captain... I'm not taking away that extra pip on your collar quite yet," Jason grinned.
"Glad to hear it." Vorn said, catching the infectious grin himself. After a good night's sleep, he felt in a particularly good mood this morning, and couldn't help with dismissing the normal formal attitude used to address an Admiral. "So what is it that I can do for you, Admiral?"
"I just received a communique from Admiral Shanshu at Starbase 13," the Admiral began. "She has issued new orders regarding several older classes of starship. It appears that the Lincoln and a number of her sisters are to be taken off the active service list for 12 months so that they can be refitted and brought up to standard."
Vorn's good mood instantly disappeared. "12 months? Admiral, I know that there's such a thing as extended shoreleave, but I can't have my crew break up for twelve months! If they're not taken up by another Captain, they'll all need retraining before they can return to work after that long."
"No Captain, they won't," Jason replied as he picked up on of the several PADDs stacked on his desk. "Captain Vorn Krace, by order of Rear Admiral Jason Locke, Task Force 22 Commanding Officer and Admiral Wilma Shanshu, Starbase 13 Commanding Officer, you are hereby ordered to take command of the Luna Class USS Iapetus, Naval Construction Contract 83721 as of this date."
"Luna class?" Vorn asked, taking the handful of PADDs and giving them a quick read-over. "But aren't there only a couple of dozen of them in service? They're brand new!"
"Congratulations Captain, the Iapetus is one of the most advanced vessels docked at the Khoonda shipyards currently," Jason explained as he sifted through the PADDs before sliding one across his desk tward the Captain. "Here's a copy of your orders, as well as everything you'll need to know about your new ship."
Vorn picked up the hand held consoles and took a look at the one displaying the MSD and specification of the new ship. She certainly looked impressive enough.
"I can have the Iapetus brought to you here at 386 or I can make a number of Runabouts, shuttles and long range transporters available to you and your crew so that you can begin transporting crew, cargo and belongings from the Lincoln as soon as you're ready," Jason continued.
"Hmm? Oh, please, there's no need for you to use up your transports, Admiral. It would be much most efficient to have a skeleton crew bring the ship to '386." Vorn replied. He really didn't think that the crew would take too lightly to the fact that they'd have to be stuck inside an armada of shuttles and runabouts while they changed ships.
"Consider it done," the Admiral smiled. "I know how much the Lincoln meant to you, a CO's first command is always specil to them. But I predict some big things will happen for you and your crew now that you're in a top of the line vessel."
"Thank you... Admiral." Vorn was clearly quite detached from the current situation, and he attempted to digest all of the information which had just been presented to him. A new ship... brand new ship, top of the line... new orders.... he needed time for it to be digested.
"You're welcome Captain," Jason replied before standing once again. "I'm sure you have a lot to do, I'll have the Ops Officer on duty inform you when the Iapetus arrives."
"Thank you."
Shaking the Captain's hand, Jason smiled and said "dismissed."
