Gormali

Mission:
Dark Discoveries
Location: USS Iapetus - Briefing Room
Timeline: MD5 1010hrs
Vorn entered the briefing room first followed quickly by Acle. Walking towards the head of the table, he stood with his hand on the headrest while he waited for the rest of his staff to arrive.
Peter entered the Briefing Room he was tired as he knew what he had to do in the next few hours which would mean putting an great risk to the ship he looked at Acle then took an Seat
"So what have we found?" asked Peter
Abigail entered and was surprised to see Peter. She would ask him later why he was still there. She handed the PADD to the captain, "My Stellar Cartographer found these possible inhabitable planets where our target may be at."
Peter looked at Abigail and took an Breath as he looked at the information he looked back towards the Window before reading some more
"Okay, that is an good start and with this information we can rule down that planet, do we have anything regarding vessels in the Area, Commander?" Asked Peter towards Acle.
Vorn held up his hand. "Let's wait until everyone's here, Commander." he said. He wanted to have all the reports presented to him before making any decisions, and he didn't want to have to keep on repeating himself as more people came in.
"Okay, Sir" replied Peter as he turned and looked at the door waiting
Annalyn finished her project she was currently working on and hurried to the briefing room, then went in and sat down and put a padd down beside her.
Vorn put down the padd from the stellar cartographer, and looked up at his officers. "OK people, this is what we've got so far. Through Acle's contacts, we've been made known of an organization called the 'Guarded', who have been dropping hints on the black market of a biological weapon. This threat is real." He paused to gauge the reactions of his officers as their earlier worries were confirmed.
"Now I have heard something of this from a member of my staff. Do you mind if I were to ask why this would be any threat at all? Surely, we could use some kind of biological scanner to minimize the threat, the way the transporter beams scan out harmful pathogens when someone beams up," responded the Chief of the Boat. Then the idea hit him, however, that they might not be familiar with these aforementioned pathogens used in the weapon - that was a deadly combination if true.
"That would work if it were a simple matter of the compound being transported aboard this, or a Federation ship. The threat comes if this organization sell the weapon to someone willing to put it to hostile use. Much like a torpedo... transporters aren't going to save anyone it's aimed at. Particularly planet-side." Vorn replied.
"May God, this makes it really hard" Replied Peter
"We have these possible planets flagged by Stellar Cartography in the nearby area as likely locations, but there's too many of them; we can't go to every system independently and do a manual search. We need to collaborate our data."
"Peter; has your research turned up any civilian-registered ships whose course passes near this nebula?"
Peter looked at the Captain then the group as he turned then entering a few Commands the Screen appared with three Vessels.
"These Vessels are the Only ones that could be able to handle this, and with looking at the Information from Stellar cartography, only two will be the ones that could cause the Problems" Said Peter.
Vorn nodded. "Good, that narrows it down. William; did your sensor sweep turn up anything?" His question was addressed to the Operations Chief, who he knew had been working with the Assistant Tactical Chief on the sweep.
"We think so." Will replied. "The sweep didn't detect any leaked particles, so whatever these people are using to contain the metreon particles has to be of high quality. But we did detect some patches of radiation, in the Jumaal sector, particularly in the Gormali system."
"Now, this radiation might be the effects of a test of a metreon weapon, or it might be the contamination left by propulsion units still used by some non-Federation space faring civilizations as an alternative to impulse drive. The radiation patches appear here, here and here." He tapped the small control console set into the conference desk in front of him, and a few shaded patches appeared overlaid on the map with the highlighted systems from Stellar Cartography. Gormali was one of those systems.
"Is the Gormali system inhabited?" Vorn asked.
"No sir. But preliminary scans show some minerals and compounds in the system which could explain a presence there." William didn't want to commit himself behind the idea of the 'Guarded' being at Gormali, incase he was wrong. But he was leaning strongly in that direction.
Vorn got up to study the map closely. After a short while he tapped the Gormali system with his knuckle. "Good work everyone. Looks like we have our destination. How are our preparations coming?" His last question he directed at Annalyn, Lamento, Bradley and Raging.
The Chief of the Boat was the first among them to chime in with his report. Clearing his throat, and making an elaborate gesture as if he was thinking of what to say. Having collected his thoughts, he furrowed his brow and folded his hands as to the grave nature of the situation. Shaking his head as he reverently looked down, he mouth words only after this long incantation of motion.
"No report sir."
Acle raised an eyebrow, but, carefully maintained his neutral expression. He himself has been quiet throughout the meeting, allowing the captain to explain and confer the information that he had to put out. It was beginning to look like everything was slowly coming together and the hunt would soon commence. Acle turned his attention back towards the meeting, awaiting the next report.
Annalyn stood, "We are ready as ever to handle any radiation problem, however all I could find on the Metreon was that it created a cascade effect in the blood and the last time anyone knew it happened, no one got to the area in time to save anyone who was hit by it. A study of the bodies, showed a rare blood disease but without radiating someone with them, there has been no further study. Most radiation creates problems with the body, so we are hoping that by treating for an initial radiation poisoning we can keep the blood problem at bay." She sat down again.
Peter sat back in his chair and put his hand to his chin was he when though the information in his mind then looked at Annalyn
"Doctor, is there any Experimental Treatments that can be done to increase our Protection?" asked Peter
"At this time I have not had time to research that exactly. Hazmat suits are not bulky anymore and might provide protection that being in the ship can not provide. I will research that as soon as I can get back to sickbay."
Raging Eagle looked up, ironically less serious now, "May I say something on the matter?"
Vorn nodded, indicating that the Chief should speak.
"I would be opposed to the use of a treatment such as that. We already have too many variables in the equation - I do not want to risk anyone else's life. That being said, if there is an experiment, I feel it is my duty to take it before anyone else's."
Annalyn shook her head. "No experiments with this stuff, not anyone, you or otherwise. Stick to your hazmat suits as a precaution."
"Agreed." Vorn said.
"I understand," responded Raging Eagle.
Vorn took a look around the officers present. He'd had reports on his desk yesterday afternoon confirming the modifications he had ordered off Engineering had been completed.
"Keep your departments at readiness levels; as of now we will be at yellow alert until we reach Gormali. Dismissed."
