We have recently been assigned a new mission, one that is well suited for the Iapetus's designed specifications. It is a scientific mission in nature, into a totally unexplored section of space. We are to chart this area of space and document everything, returning with samples of anything that strikes us as particularly worthwhile.

"To boldly go where no man has gone before..." said my recruitment officer with a fake smile plastered across his face. About the only true thing he said, even if it has taken what has seemed several life-times to come true, the bastard. I'm still waiting for the shore leave with naked Orion girls that he promised.

In any event, this should prove interesting to say the least. Unmanned probes are the only thing to have preceded us into the region. Undoubtedly we will run into something that we haven't seen before, hopefully whatever it is, won't attempt to shoot at us. As such, the Admiral has given us leave to fill the Iapetus's cargo holds to bursting, and I have already requisitioned all of our basic provisions with extras. I will send out a memo to each department head to ensure that they will have what they need.

My mentor was told me that the measure of a man can be seen most aptly when he reacts, not when he is given chance to plan. I believe this to be true for an entire ship as well. Although she, the Iapetus, has definitely been through much, and excelled, this will be a true "measure" of her now, doing what she was truly designed to do.
