Doctor's new playroom

Posted on Thu Oct 9th, 2008 @ 10:42pm by Captain Vorn Krace

Mission: Docked
Location: USS Iapetus - Sickbay
Timeline: Sometime after the transfer

Vorn stepped into the pristine, new sickbay and looked around. It looked like something out of the private medical facilities he had seen occasionally throughout the Federation. Such facilities were discouraged, as the Federation preferred that everyone be able to receive the best treatment, but the private facilities were always top-of-the-line, pristine clean, and free of any crowds - or normally, many people at all beyond the staff.

"Lieutenant?" he called out, looking around for his CMO.

Annalyn came out of the storage area at the back of the sickbay. She had been unpacking supplies. She really needed more staff here now, but she could not resist peeking in boxes. "Yes Captain." Swinging around in a circle, "Isn't it wonderful?"

Vorn chuckled slightly at his CMO's pirouette. "Yes, she's a very well put together ship." he said. Everything on her was brand new - it had even taken Vorn some time to figure out what the configuration of the controls were on his command chair on the Bridge. "How are you finding sickbay?"

"Its wonderful, beautiful, it has a generator for sickbay so if more power is needed to the shields, sickbay is still working. I have 12 private rooms instead of only 5, full surgery suite- recovery room, working lab everything. We can have two people doing surgery instead of only 1. Is there any chance of getting some extra Doctors, I would like one for each shift, on for relief, on to cover for me, If I have Senior Officer Stuff to do, and an Extra for when we have a rough shift. That one would be working with me until I know which shift has the most patients."

"You can put the request in to personnel before we leave dock." Vorn said, smiling at the infectious attitude of the woman. "In the mean time, you'll be pleased to know, I've turned up for my physical."

"Now that is wonderful, if you will sit on Biobed one, we can do that. It till take a bit longer than if I had someone here to help. I will go get supplies, be right back."

"Certainly, Doctor." Vorn replied, looking behind him to locate biobed one before walking over and jumping onto it.

"We've got a new assistant for you already. Has he reported in to you yet?" he asked.

Annalyn walked back to the biobed with a padd in her pocket, a tricorder in one hand and blood draw kit in the other. "Can you roll up your sleeve, I will get the Blood test started then do the scanns."

Vorn complied with the Doctor's request, pushing his left sleeve up as high as it would go - just about half way up his bicep.

Annalyn quickly took the blood, "I will be right back." She left to set up the blood test in the Lab, inserted the blood and left it to do its work.

Going back to the Biobed, she pulled the padd out of the pocket of the lab coat, then made some notes on it. Setting it down, she picked up the tricorder and started scanning Vorn's head. "I see no sign of the head injury I knew you had when we dropped into space beside that other ship, I hope this EMH has been reprogrammed so that doesn't happen again."

"Well, we got a whole new EMH with this ship, apparently." Vorn replied. "Mark Four, I'm told - the most advanced stable version available." he had heard rumours of a Mark V, and even a Mark VI on starships, but they were generally considered as still in their beta testing stages, and so not fully stable from a programming point of view.

Vorn watched as Annalyn snapped the tricorder shut after finishing her scans. "So we done here?" he asked.

"Let me go get the blood test, I see no problems, however if you have headaches or anything I want you back." she went to get the blood tests, returning a few minutes later. "Everything looks ok."

"Excellent." Vorn said, rolling his sleeve back down and jumping off the bed.

"I want us to be underway pretty soon, so get your staff sorted and a report to me ASAP." he said, before bidding her well and leaving sickbay.
