Mission:
Borderline Diplomacy
Location: Shuttle Craft/Bridge
Timeline: MD07 1714
ON:
The Shuttle craft approached the Iapetus slowly. There was a silence between the moment the tiny ship left warp space and when the pilot announced their arrival. Now they were waiting for the Iapetus's reply. Which added to more silence. Chris Rogan was not one to just sit around. On DS10, Chris would constantly be seen doing something, anything to relieve boredom. Waiting was never in his mode of thought.
"Oh. Come on already," Chris yelled. "What's taking them. Send it again."
The pilot rolled his eyes and pressed the comm button,=^=This is Shuttle Rys requesting docking with the Starship Iapetus, please respond=^=
=^=Shuttle Rys, this is USS Iapetus. Please authenticate.=^=
The pilot turned to Chris, "That's you sir."
Rogan sighed, =^=This is Ensign Christopher Rogan, I have orders to report to the Iapetus as Chief Diplomatic Officer.=^=
=^=Roger that Rys. You are cleared to approach on vector two niner eight. Shuttle bay doors are opening and are lighted. Welcoming party will await for your arrival. Be advised, ship is under condition delta. Confirm receipt.=^=
"Confirmed Iapetus," the Pilot announced and he lead the ship towards the shuttle bay door. Rogan sighed and waited in silence as the ship slowed down and with a thump it came to a stop. "You ready sir?"
"Ready, willing and able" Chris left the ship and headed out the shuttle bay. He walked towards the nearest bulkhead and asked the computer for the closest turbolift. The indicator lights guided him to the far end of the corridor and he immediately called for the bridge the moment he entered the car.
"Ensign Rogan reporting for duty, sir." Chris said as he stood next to Walex. "May I ask where the commanding officer is?"
Acle looked up from the command chair and offered a slight smile. He stood up and gestured towards a door off to one side of the bridge. "Welcome aboard Ensign... Please, if you would, follow me." Acle looked to the front of the bridge and spoke louder "Lieutenant Biggins, you have the conn."
William Biggins (NPC) looked up from his console then spoke "Aye Aye Sir. I have the conn." before standing and moving to the center of the bridge.
Acle led the way towards the hatch, entering first and moving to one end of the conference table. "Have a seat Ensign." he said, then took the seat at the head of the table.
Chris looked around the room before sitting. More waiting, he thought to himself.
Acle waited for the other to sat, then offered another slight smile. "Again, welcome aboard the Iapetus. I am the ship's executive officer, Commander Walex. Normally, I would take you to visit the captain, but, that would prove slightly difficult at this exact moment. Captain Krace is on the surface of the planet conducting negotiations..." Acle waited, looking for a reaction in the other's face. "Obviously, it will be my goal to try to get you down to the surface as quickly as possible to join him."
Acle paused, letting the information soak in. "I realize that this is not giving you a great deal of time to get adjusted. However, this mission is of the utmost importance."
"I am aware of the basic parts of this mission sir," Chris replied. "I was assigned to this ship because Command couldn't find some one quickly enough before you launched. Since you need me down on the surface I think it would be best if I leave now. I'll beam down immediately." He stood up and headed toward the door.
"Ensign!" Acle called sharply, but, not harshly. "It would most likely be best if we contacted the Captain first to at least notify you that you are on your way... Would you not agree?" He asked.
"Yes, sir." Chris settled down. "You are correct." He stood behind the chair he was sitting earlier. Not feeling defeated but cut away from the excitement he caught himself in. There was work to be done and he was eager to get his hands dirty.
Acle hid a smile behind a slight cough as he saw the ensign return. He tapped his commbadge and waited for the beep to fade.
=^=Walex to operations. Get me a clear feed to the Captain.=^= he said.
=^=Aye Aye commander. Opening the channel now. One moment...=^= the voice on the other end said. A moment passed, then another. Acle frowned then appeared to be about to tap the communicator again when the voice finally came back.
=^=Uh... Commander. I don't seem to be able to reach the Captain.=^=
Acle's expression vanished, melting into that of a stone facade. Only his eyes showed emotion, and they glinted. "Follow me Ensign." All sense of mirth had fled from his voice, it becoming flat and emotionless. Acle thrust himself out of the chair then strode to the hatch leading to the bridge.
Rogan made a hissing sound through his teeth. "This ought to be good."
"Commander on Deck!" rang out as Lieutenant Biggins stood to his feet. Acle looked at him then said "Take over on operations Lieutenant. Now."
The assistant operations officer blinked, but, hurried to comply. He replaced the junior rating at the console and looked back at Acle expectantly.
"Establish a connection to the Captain." Acle ordered.
The young officer turned to do so, his skilled hands flying across the board. He looked up in surprise a moment later, then did something else.
"Uh... I can't find any signal from any of the away team members Sir. Or even any of their emergency beacons. It's just as if they... Were never there." the now slightly frightened lieutenant said.
Acle stood still for a minute, then moved to the captain's chair and pressed a button on the arm-rest, activating the ship-wide intercom.
=^=All hands, all hands. Alpha shift officers report to their duty station, I say again, Alpha shift officers report to their duty station.=^= Acle said before releasing the button. He straightened, then looked to the ensign.
"Consider your beam-down request denied Ensign. When you go down there, you might just be following an assault team.
"Understood."
