Reassignment

Posted on Fri Jun 4th, 2010 @ 7:54pm by Lieutenant Commander Sara Archer & Captain Vorn Krace

Mission: Shadows Fall
Location: USS Iapetus - Ready Room
Timeline: MD01 1520hrs

Sara had spent the last several hours wrapping up the loose ends from her mission. The mission was a success; the Shintaka threat had been neutralized and the Elyshan presence in the sector had been diminished. Although she would have preferred to have had access to the Elyshan weapon systems, or was allowed to spend more time alone with Atakimpa, she could have had more to report to her superiors. Still, she had no doubt that Starfleet would be satisfied with her work.

She had prepared two versions of her report: one for Starfleet Intelligence, and the other for Captain Krace. Because his ship was so involved with the events of her mission, she felt that he should be kept apprised. However, some more sensitive information was left out of this version of the report. With her gear packed, her last order of business before moving to the station was to deliver this report, thank the captain for the lift, and be on her way.

She rode the turbolift to the bridge, and stopped at the Ready Room. Pressing the chime, she waited patiently for a response.

"Come in," Vorn called, as he picked up a small stack of books from his desk and placed them into a carry container. They were very old originals, and had been shaken loose and damaged in the battle above Bevrud, so he had decided to take them to the station to find someone capable of repairing them skilfully.

Sara stepped through the opening sliding doors and hand her PADD to Krace. "Captain, here is my report on the Bevrudl mission. I assumed you would want it for your ship records."

"Thank you," Vorn said, taking the PADD from her and skimming it briefly. He'd file it away at some point for reading later on tonight. It would afterall be very interesting to hear about the mission from an intelligence operative's perspective, and to hear about anything she had included from before their arrival at the safehouse.

"I shall be taking my leave of the Iapetus soon. I would like to thank you for your help on the surface. You and your officers certainly made my life easier."

"Actually," Vorn replied, taking a PADD off his desk and moving to stand squarely in front of her. "You may not be taking your leave of us quite so soon. I submitted my own report to Starfleet Command while en-route," - it was standard procedure for COs to submit a brief report shortly after a mission, followed by a more detailed one which would include more sensitive data in-person at a later date - "and they sent me this in a data packet in return this afternoon." He handed her the PADD. "They're your new transfer orders."

Sara read over the PADD carefully. The transfer orders were unambiguous. Still, she had some uncertainty over its contents. "I don't understand, sir. This says that the Iaeptus is being assigned to the Delta Quadrant. How can I be assigned to the Iapetus when I am an expert in the politics of this quadrant?"

"There aren't many experts on the Delta Quadrant Commander," Vorn replied, as he moved back to continue packing his books. "Whilst there is an ample supply of Alpha and Beta Quadrant experts. You however," he said stopping with a book in his hand to look right at her again. "Are also highly qualified for cataloguing and analysing new information, and compiling it into highly credible and accurate intelligence. Starfleet believes these skills are essential for ships entering regions of space which are almost completely unknown. You may very well find that they help you to become an expert on the Delta Quadrant politics surrounding Starfleet's installations in the quadrant."

Sara's only reaction to the praise is a series of subtle nods. "I appreciate the compliments, Captain. I will serve the Iapetus as Chief Intelligence Officer to the best of my abilities."

"Excellent to hear it. For now, I have some reading material for you." Packing the last of his books, Vorn moved over to a neat shelf of PADDs of varying sizes - this shelf closer to his desk, and with a design made for keeping the PADDs in place during disturbances. Pulling out one of the larger ones, and glancing at it quickly to confirm it was the one he was after, he handed it to the commander. "Here's a list of files relevant to the region of space we're going to, and some attached files from Task Force 38's former region of operations. There's about ten years worth of reports in the database that we have only just been cleared for, so there will be a lot of information both you and I will need to take in before we get there."

Sara glanced over the PADD. There was a lot of information for her to go over. It would take days for her to get up to speed on Task Force 38's operating theater. She was looking forward to it. "Aye, Captain. I'll be sure to let you know if there is anything particularly interesting."

Nodding his satisfaction, Vorn simply said; "That'll be all then. Welcome aboard the Iapetus, Commander. Dismissed."
