Mission: The Fate of the Swiftsure
Location: Security Level - The Space Station
Timeline: MD08 1400hrs

[ON]

Jordan's boots on the hard flooring made his entry onto the security level obvious to everyone in the small reception area. It looked like the Station employed some kind of private security contractor to handle their law enforcement. The level was quite different to the rest of the station. Clean, crisp lines with no sign of the composite technology that marked out the rest of the station.

A few reprobates sat around the outside of the room and in the centre sat a large, round reception desk, housing several people feverishly working away. It seemed a world away from the station which lay on the other side of the door. The level of professionalism in the room was almost tangible. It put Gunning on edge. He has expected a rag-tag security force all working against one-another. However, they had found something quite different.

For the kind of station this was, it seemed like overkill.

Two individuals approached the Starfleet pair, both clad in identical grey uniforms make of some sort of foam-like fabric material, with darker grey details on the chest, thighs and encircling the shoulders, at about the same level as the grey patching on a Starfleet uniform sat. They both wore a large hand-held weapon - likely a phaser or disruptor - on one hip, and a baton with a power cell integrated into it on the other. The baton looked standard between the two of them, but it seemed as if their ranged weapon was more of a personal acquisition.

"You're not from around here," the taller of the two said. "Those uniforms," he pointed, "I've seen them a couple of times on holo fleks that get brought in from time-to-time. You're with that Space Fleet Federation, or whatever it's called, aren't you?"

"United Federation of Planets Starfleet." Gunning said quickly, taking in the weaponry. "Lieutenant Commander Gunning, this is my associate, Lieutenant Commander Archer."

Sara nodded towards the officers in silent acknowledgement.

"What do you want here?" the other security... 'officer' asked, bluntly.

Archer typed a few commands into her PADD before handing it over to the security personnel. The PADD displayed brief biographical information on their objective. "We are looking for a man named Varro. He has been acting as a supplier for Starfleet in this region. We have recently lost contact with him, and we want to make sure that he is still safe."

"So? Go look for him," the second man said; clearly not the helpful sort.

The first man rolled his eyes, before grudgingly explaining. "SecuCorp is here at the employ of the station administrative to ensure that dealings on the station do not become troublesome or violent. Nothing more. We don't do man hunts, and we only do jobs for the station or the company."

Sara took back the PADD. "I understand that you can not retask you officers to look for one man. We were only hoping that you may have some information on him. I assume this at least means that he isn't in your holding cells."

"Even if he was, we wouldn't be able to release that information to you," the thus-far more cooperative man said, becoming decidedly less cooperative in the minds of the Starfleet officers as time went on. "Your organisation would have to submit a formal request through official channels. I can give you the details on how to contact the company, but nothing more than that."

The intelligence officer nodded. "I understand. Please send the details to our ship. We'll continue our investigation on our own. Thank you for your time," Sara responded, not really sincere.

As the two officers walked towards the exit of the offices, a man wearing the same uniform as the two that the Starfleet officers had just been talking to stepped forward, out of some corner that he'd been slouching in, and caught the pair just before they left the offices. "Hey," he said, quietly. "I caught a glimpse of that data module page you showed him there. You looking for Varro?"

Sara offered Jordan a quick glance. "We are. Do you know him?"

"He's an acquaintance, I wouldn't exactly say I know him all too well," the man replied. "But I know he's not in one of our holding cells. Last I heard, he was seen down in the sub-levels. Level Zeta-Alpha, I think it was."

"Thank you, officer. We'll focus our attention there." Sara led Jordan out of the security offices before taking him aside in a more private location. "I've got a bad feeling about that information. Maybe it's just a spy's intuition. I don't know. In any case, I don't think we have much choice but to follow up on it. We don't really have anything else to go on."

"Well," Jordan said quietly, before stopping until they were well away from the guard station, "we do have this."

He held out a small data core which shimmered red in the light of the corridor. Along it, marked neatly in ink read the words "Varro Sur.". "I assume it means surveillance," he offered, "I lifted it from the desk while they were looking at you.

Sara grinned. "We might make a spy out of you yet, Mr. Gunning."
