Brainstorming

Posted on Sat Jan 16th, 2010 @ 1:19pm by Captain Vorn Krace & Commander Acle Walex & Commander Peter Brown & Lieutenant JG Winter Balmorra

Mission: Borderline Diplomacy
Location: Observation Lounge
Timeline: MD01 1915hrs

After spending ten minutes going over the data he had been given on their mission, Vorn tapped his combadge. =^=Walex, Brown and Balmorra, report to the observation lounge,=^=

Acle looked up yet again as he heard his name called, annoyance crossing his face. He had been constantly harrowed by incoming requests for supplies. At one point, even a cadet had sent in a request, a cadet! Acle shook his head and replayed the last comm. He frowned, then locked his terminal and PADD that he was using. That wasn't a cadet calling him now...

Acle stood up, nodding to the others near-by, and walked to the observation lounge. Seeing that he was the first to arrive, Acle nodded to his Captain and sat himself, pulling out his PADD and continuing to work on what he could without a full terminal access. He knew the Captain would begin when everyone arrived.

Peter walked in holding a Padd. He looked around the room, looked out of the window and then nodded to the First Officer and Captian, taking a seat and getting ready for the breifing.

Winter looked up from her cup of coffee and the news service update that was playing in her office when her COMM badge beeped the message. "On my way." She grumbled to herself.

While Winter considered the Captain a good man, his timing was a little off. She rode the turbolift to the bridge and stepped off into the flutter of people that was pre-launch hussle and bussle. She had to wait for some of the crowd to pass before she got a clear path to the lounge.

Vorn waited until each of the three had entered before beginning his explanation of what he had so far. "Starfleet's sending us on a diplomatic mission, one they consider of high importance," he said. "The people we'll be negotiating with are the Bevrudl." As he tapped a few commands into the room's primary display console, it showed a map, with their current location at SB386, the borders of the Federation and the Elyshan Empire, and the Bevrudl star highlighted, sitting right in the middle of the two territories. "The Bevrudl have twice turned down offers by the Federation for beginning the process of membership. It seems that now they're afraid of being caught in a cross-fire. It is our job to make sure that this process can begin."

He paused, making sure that the three of them had taken in what he'd told them. "I want hypotheses from you," he then said. "Try and put yourselves in their shoes. Why are they approaching us now? Is it just the Elyshan threat, or is there something else? Is there any reason they might want to come to us more so than the Elyshans? Anything that you think might help to emphasize to bring them in?"

Acle raised an eyebrow. "History has shown that the most prevalent reason for joining with a higher power, even if the higher power is "good", is a lack of security. Whether it be economic, defense, or even political, there is usually some sort of lack there. In this case, I would venture to guess that the Bavrudl are feeling scared, not only because they may be caught in a cross fire, but, because both the Federation and Elyshan are gearing towards war. The Elyshan more so then us, but, we still are. That means that the economy may have slowed. The Beyrudl are not arms producers, and fewer traders are going to want to risk crossing that border from either side. Their economy must be hurting. That puts pressure on their leaders, who in turn, move to the only body that they can." Acle said, ending his analysis. "Of course, that is at least indirectly related to the Elyshans Captain."

Winter looked around at the other three in the room before speaking, trying to ponder their thoughts. "The Bevrudl have always been independents though." Winter explained. "Their culture puts value on being independent. The Dominion War, the Bevrudl refused all help from the Federation, why now? They weren't afraid of a cross fire between us and the Cardassians, Bevrudl may be a little off the Cardassian Border, but it was still close.

Acle conceded the point with a nod of his head. "True, but, this time may be different because they are right in the middle, smack in the middle. Maybe it is more of a direct threat versus a threat from afar. It's idle speculation of course, but, your point is valid. I hadn't considered that before."

Winter nodded and turned to Commander Brown. "And your thoughts on the matter Commander Brown? You are the resident tactician, maybe you have some unique insight?" Winter asked.

Peter sat back and took in all the information. Looking at the officers assembled he took a breath.

"Well, I happen to know that things are not going well with us and the Elyshans. The situation in that area of space is getting worse. I have already communcated with Starfleet Command myself; if we are in the area and if the Elyshans decide to move onto Federation space they could, and most of the 8th and 7th Fleets have been mobilized into key postions along the border in an Operation that is ongoing with Fleet Command. I haven't gotten much from Starfleet - everyone's been tight lipped on what's happening, so we must be very carful if we fail in assisting these people. This could be a loss to Starfleet as the system is in a place that could be used to effectively defend the Federation or to invade it, depending on which power is there," Replied Peter

Vorn nodded to himself - they had all come up with good points, and he was beginning to see Winter's potential use as a diplomatic advisor. He added her to his mental list of possible accompanyments for the negotiations on Bevrudl. "I want you three to go over all the data we have on them, and their region of space," Vorn said. "You have less then a week to become experts."

"I can do it in two days." Winter explained. "If I dont sleep of course." Winter said, addressing the cocked eyebrows around the room.

Peter looked at the Captian and smiled

"Well, we will be ready for it" Replied Peter

"Acle, I want us resupplied and underway by this time tomorrow," Vorn said, as the three began to leave. "We can't afford to leave this invite up in the air too long, or the Elyshans might try and take advantage of it themselves."

"Aye Aye Captain. I have already notified the quartermaster that we will be in urgent need of supplies and that we have a timetable set. He assured me that he would do everything possible to expedite the process." Acle said.

"Sickbay's fine, just in case anyone's asking." Winter said.

Peter stood up grabing his padd looking at the group assembled

"Lets get to work" Replied Peter

Winter nodded. "Of course Commander." Winter said as she got up from her chair.
