The Gambling Game

As the viewscreen fizzled out, back to it's blank oval state, the Elyshans who had been standing in what could only be analogous to a teleconference room, or a standing-only briefing room, nodded slightly, either in satisfaction that things were proceeding to plan, or impressed by the Bevrudl's flair or style. Or perhaps simply the amount of resolve he needed to simply go through with executing his own leader.

Turning from the screen which had moments ago broadcast the Bevrudl transmission, Sovereign Lissek strode towards the hatch into the corridor of his ship, his brown and tan coloured clothing contrasting with the darker, colder colours on the bulkheads. No member of the ship's crew wore anything like a uniform - uniforms were for the Guard, enemies of all Elyshan Factions (unless the Guard had something to gain from a temporary back door deal with a faction). Faction members did away with such restrictions, with few exceptions. The only method of identifying anyone as belonging to his ship by their clothing was the patch they all wore on either their sleeves, their jackets or their trousers. All bore the same faction insignia that was painted across the dorsal hull of the ship.

Tervan followed his sovereign out of the viewing. The first officer was about a head shorter than Lissek, but just as broad at the shoulders. He flipped through the displays on a PADD, going over data from the Bevrudl demonstration. "From our initial reports, Sovereign, everything has gone according to plan so far. We're on track. We still have the issue of the Starfleet ship to deal with."

Junix looked up from where he had been lost in thought, and started after the other two. Junix was taller then the majority of Elyshan's, although he was thin. This was not to say that he was without muscle, however, as the training regimen that he put himself through was trying indeed. He wore a disruptor on one hip, a blade on the other and the look he cast around was filled with suspicion. Such was the most common sight on the head of security.

"I say we just blow them out of the sky." Junix stated bluntly. "One less spineless ship to deal with." he almost spat.

"They may be Federation, but they can still pose a threat if we don't handle them properly," the Sovereign responded as he led them through the corridors of his ship. "Are we certain that they detected the magnitude of the explosion as we destroyed the Guard's vessel?"

"Yes my Sovereign. A blind fool would have been able to see that explosion." Junix replied.

"Excellent," the Sovereign responded. "Then they will have detected the subspace rift that accompanied it." The Sovereign was very proud of the subspace weapon they had managed to acquire a few months ago. It was unfortunate they had to use the only one they had to destroy the Elyshan Guard vessel, but none of their conventional weapons would have allowed them to take out the ship without taking significant damage themselves.

"Are their sensors powerful enough to detect whether we have another of the weapons onboard?" It had been a large risk, to assume that they could bluff the Federation ship into believing that they may have a full compliment of the extremely powerful subspace weapons, but it was one they had to take if this scheme was going to work.

Junix made a slight shrug. "I cannot tell you that my Sovereign. That is in the realm of sheer speculation."

"Then we shall have to gamble," Lissek responded. "Junix, ensure that the subspace field generators are fitted correctly. If they attempt to call our bluff, I still believe that they will reinforce the belief we have another weapon." By now, the trio were on the bridge of the starship. "Tervan; hail the Federation ship."
